The benefits of a micro or intimate wedding

So what is a micro wedding? Yes, we know it is a buzzword that is currently at full buzz - but if we strip it right back to basics, a micro-wedding is a scaled down wedding. They are sometimes known as intimate weddings and can be as small as you like. You might just love the romance of just dashing off with your loved one and sealing the deal and then announcing it to your friends and family, or maybe you just don't want to deal with the pressure that can be put on couples when they are getting married "you must do this, you must do that" and so on. So if you are thinking that this sounds like your cup of tea then let's explore reasons why this choice could be perfect for you!

  1. Choice of Venue and location You have far more options with a scaled down wedding. If you don't have to cater for your third cousin once removed and their children, and can focus purely on inviting the guests that you truly love then you have literally endless venue options. You might decide to choose a private dining room in your favourite hotel or restaurant, or take a BBQ to the beach - or maybe with the scaled down costs, you could afford something more up-market and luxury for just a handful of guests. If you decide to pack your bags, and jump on a plane - you could also do this and have your own version of destination wedding. What's not to like?

  2. Budget friendly option Choosing your budget is the most important thing you need to do when planning your wedding, and of course an intimate wedding will be far more friendly on your wallet as you will be catering for fewer people. However, that doesn't mean to say that you need to cut back on the parts that are the most important to you. Why shouldn't you wear the most beautiful dress to a ceremony with just 6 people? And of course, if the wedding has fewer people attending you might be able to put the rest into a glamorous honeymoon, or buy the car that you need. Whatever your budget it will still be a perfect day that you will always remember.

  3. Special feature You could include a special feature as part of your micro-wedding, that guests will always remember. For example your own mixologist so that you can let the cocktails flow. or a beautiful string quartet to play to you in your private dining room during your wedding breakfast.

  4. Romance There is something so romantic about just the couple running off to getting married. You would need to complete the legal paperwork of course which would involve two witnesses that could be plucked off the street. A lovely romantic idea would be to do the legal paperwork (no rings or vows needed) and then go to a place that is meaningful for you both - with your professional celebrant who can then deliver the most beautiful, intimate and romantic ceremony in a place that is very important for you. Vows and promises, and ring exchange would happen at this point and it would be divinely romantic.

  5. Spending time with your favourite people Trying to talk to everyone at a large gathering is virtually impossible and can add pressure to your day. An intimate wedding allows you to spend time talking and laughing with the people you love the most without the stress of thinking you haven't yet spoken to everyone you invited.
