I remember going to a friend's wedding years ago on New Year's Day.  WOW!  It was so beautiful - the bride was dressed in a dark red velvet dress with a white fur trimmed hood and had a bouquet of white and red flowers.  It was a Church wedding and as they left the Church, as if on cue - it started to gently snow which brought a sense of peace and magic to the whole event.  The snowy photos were to die for - and at the reception (in a pub) there was a fire burning in the grate, mulled wine and cider on offer - it was all unbelievably stunning and romantic.  I realise that you can't always be lucky enough to command snow to order - but there are so many benefits to winter weddings, so if you are humming and ha-ing then have a little read and see if the following appeals to you!

Venue and accommodation rates - Stress can build up when you are planning your wedding.  However - if you have a winter wedding, you will have far less stress about the venue rates, which are often cheaper off season, and you are more likely to find good availability as well.   Most venues book up well in advance for the summer months but will have decent availability for the winter months and they might be more than happy to negotiate with you on prices.  Your guests will probably thank you for holding a winter wedding as well, as many hotels will offer reduced price accommodation deals off-season.

Weather With a summer wedding you might be stressing about the weather - will it rain, won't it rain and so on.  If you are planning an outside summer wedding, then you always have to have  that backup plan in place in case of poor weather, and it is likely that guests will also be wondering about their outfits in case of weather changes that might make them feel uncomfortably hot or cold.  Well - here's the good news!  With a winter wedding, you know it won't be hot - you can remove the vagaries of mother nature and simply accept that the weather will be cold and plan for it accordingly.   Your celebrant, photographer, vendors and guests will know exactly what to plan for making everyone far less stressed and you can truly embrace the season.

Decorations Just think, too, of all the gorgeous winter themed decorations you can plan to make your venue look lovely.  Winter whites and greenery work well together but there are many options.  Imagine the twinkling fairy lights, and a fire burning in the grate - how wonderful!  I recently saw a winter wedding where the whole venue was decked out in the style of 'Frozen' and the bride wore a dress like Elsa's - Oh my word! It was unique and, again, beautiful (Brownie points to anyone who can guess the music played during the ceremony).

Ceremony Any ceremony I plan will always be bespoke and carefully written for the happy couple, however in winter we have a wealth of material to choose from when it comes to poetry and readings.  There are also rituals that we can adapt to suit the season - your handfasting ribbons could be winter themed, there could be a winter themed unity ceremony - it just goes on.

One thing I can't stress enough to my couples, is that your day will be wonderful, memorable and perfect whenever you choose to hold it, but if you want a wedding that is a bit different, then I can't recommend a winter wedding highly enough!
